Kuma Outdoor Gear

Recently, we collaborated with Kuma Outdoor Gear to produce a heartwarming short film that shines a light on the incredible work of the Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter, of which Kuma is a proud supporter.

Kuma’s vision for the project was to authentically showcase some of their outdoor gear, including their highly durable dog bowls, which are used at the shelter to feed rescued bears. Beyond featuring their products, Kuma wanted to bring attention to the broader mission of NLWS, a leader in wildlife rehabilitation and rewilding.

Our approach to this project stayed true to our ethos - crafting a compelling story that naturally integrates the brand without forced advertising. The result is a video that emotionally connects with viewers while celebrating the shared commitment to wildlife conservation.

Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter

Let us amplify your mission and build a personal connection with your audience through the power of authentic storytelling.

Fostering Lasting Partnerships

At True Coast Films we seek to build long lasting relationships with our clients, and our partnership with the Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter is a perfect example of that. We’ve been working with NLWS since 2016, when Nick Quenville began filming the TV show Wild Bear Rescue for Animal Planet. The series was produced by Omnifilm Entertainment and ran for three seasons, greatly impacting the shelter’s ability to connect with new donors. Following the production of this series, Nick has continued working with NLWS, helping create new ways for the shelter to continue growing their donor-community .

Inspiring People to Take Action

Whether you're launching a crowdfunding campaign, seeking new donors, or inviting your community to rally behind your mission, the most powerful stories are the ones that make people feel connected. We create films that help audiences understand not just what you do, but why it matters and how they can make a difference - turning awareness into action and inspiring people to become part of your story.

Wildlife Research & Conservation Films

Whether you're a PhD student conducting field research, an environmental organization sharing the impact of your work, or an Indigenous Guardian Program showcasing important stewardship and research initiatives, True Coast Films helps translate complex fieldwork into compelling visual stories.

From capturing rare moments with rewilded grizzlies alongside biologists to working with conservation officers in high-stakes situations, we understand the patience, flexibility, and unobtrusive approach these environments demand. Our goal is to create cinematic, documentary-style films that communicate your work with clarity, authenticity, and impact - without getting in the way.

By combining scientific accuracy with documentary storytelling, we expand the reach of your research beyond the academic community, making important discoveries accessible to broader audiences and helping elevate the impact of your work.

Short-form documentaries

Director’s note:

I hope this film provides some ideas for how small scale travel businesses can market themselves, not just through flashy images, but by showcasing the story and passion behind the work they do.

Synopsis:

From the thrill of initial contact with an apex predator, to the serenity of babysitting bear cubs, Walking with Grizzlies follows bear-guides as they pursue close encounters with BC’s coastal grizzly bears. Venturing deep into remote river systems, pristine estuaries and silent forests, we follow bear-guides and explore what drives people to follow in the footsteps of giants.

The Making of:

In 2019, I set out with the goal of making a feature-length documentary following bear viewing guides and exploring the relationships that they build with grizzlies. I spent a few days at Farewell Harbour Lodge in the Broughton Archipelago and Great Bear Lodge on the Nekite River in Smith Inlet. When I was unable to acquire funding to make a longer form documentary, I decided to edit together this short film.

Thank you:

I want to give a massive thank you to Tim & Kelli McGrady and the entire team of guides at Farewell Harbour Lodge, and another massive thank you to Tom Rivest & Marg Leehane along with their team at Great Bear Lodge. It was an awe-inspiring privilege to experience grizzly bears with all of you!

Eastside Unfiltered

Short-Form Documentary
(37 min)

In 2015, I began filming a documentary on at-risk members of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside community who found self-worth through urban beekeeping & gardening. Eastside Unfiltered, explores how green respite serves as a sanctuary in the centre of chaos.

This documentary was made as a tribute to the incredible people I met in the DTES, and has since been incorporated into the curriculum of a number of high schools and universities across Canada.

Industry & Infrastructure Stories

Whether you're operating a remote mine, engineering firm, or skilled trade, your people are your greatest asset. We create documentary-style films that showcase the expertise, craftsmanship, and culture behind your work — helping your clients, future employees, and stakeholders understand what makes your company unique.

Educational Films

We work with schools, nonprofits, and organizations to create clear and visually compelling content that informs, inspires, and educates.

The Kelp Rescue Initiative

The Kelp Rescue Initiative required educational content that could clearly communicate the science and hands-on techniques behind kelp restoration. The resulting videos were designed to make complex processes accessible to volunteers, community members, and others interested in helping rebuild coastal ecosystems.

The Westside Schools

The Westside Schools commissioned a series of promotional videos capturing the community, culture, and day-to-day atmosphere of the school. The films highlighted the school’s individualized approach to learning and the environment it creates for students within Vancouver’s private school system.
