Short-form documentaries

Director’s note:

I hope this film provides some ideas for how small scale travel businesses can market themselves, not just through flashy images, but by showcasing the story and passion behind the work they do.

Synopsis:

From the thrill of initial contact with an apex predator, to the serenity of babysitting bear cubs, Walking with Grizzlies follows bear-guides as they pursue close encounters with BC’s coastal grizzly bears. Venturing deep into remote river systems, pristine estuaries and silent forests, we follow bear-guides and explore what drives people to follow in the footsteps of giants.

The Making of:

In 2019, I set out with the goal of making a feature-length documentary following bear viewing guides and exploring the relationships that they build with grizzlies. I spent a few days at Farewell Harbour Lodge in the Broughton Archipelago and Great Bear Lodge on the Nekite River in Smith Inlet. When I was unable to acquire funding to make a longer form documentary, I decided to edit together this short film.

Thank you:

I want to give a massive thank you to Tim & Kelli McGrady and the entire team of guides at Farewell Harbour Lodge, and another massive thank you to Tom Rivest & Marg Leehane along with their team at Great Bear Lodge. It was an awe-inspiring privilege to experience grizzly bears with all of you!
